Sutton Foster TV Series 'Bunheads'
Picked up by ABC

Interview with Sutton FosterGreat news for Sutton Foster who played Coco, Bret's girlfriend, during 3 episodes of the first season of the Flight of the Conchords TV series. Her TV series 'Bunheads' in which she plays the lead role, has been picked up by the American TV network ABC.

Sutton plays the part of a Vegas showgirl who moves to a small town after getting married. In the new home she works in a dance studio that is run by her mother-in-law. It's a role that Sutton is perfectly suited for with her extensive broadway stage experience and two Tony awards to back up those credentials.

More details on the confirmation by ABC can be read at broadway.com or check out our exclusive interview with Sutton Foster about her time on the Flight of the Conchords TV set.

She played a lovely role on Flight of the Conchords and we wish her all the best with her new TV series. Here's one of our favourite moments from the whole TV series featuring Bret singing a love song to Sutton... with Jemaine's help!

In an interview on New Zealand radio, Rhys Darby mentioned that the guys had 'actually' been talking about a movie recently and, furthermore, that pencils may hit paper in 2012.

Yup, you read it right, Flight of the Conchords have been nominated for 6 Emmy's - Wow! Jemaine is also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Conchords Off To A Flying Start In The UK

After a long and patient wait by Conchords fans in the UK, they tuned in in force for the first episode of second series of the HBO show last night. Some 412,000 viewers tuned in for the 10.30pm airing, which represented 2.9% of the multichannel audience and 3 times the national average.

This is pretty darn impressive considering it was on BBC4, which is not a mainstream channel in the UK (viewers there need digital reception and a decoding box to pick up the free-to-view channel) and completely surpasses the first episode of the first series, which pulled in 0.7% of the available audience (and aired in an earlier slot).

Hannah Clarke's documentary also fared well with over 1/4 million viewers tuning in for the 10.05 show.

I can't help wondering how many they'd both have pulled in if they had been on the mainstream BBC1 or BBC2 channels, at an earlier time. Hint, hint there BBC!

Art Garfunkel Gives Conchords Nod

In an extract from an interview with Katjus Cisar over at 77square.com, Art Garfunkel spoke glowingly of his time with the Conchords in a recent episode (still to come NZ / UK... Aussie).

" They're gentlemanly, professional. Bret (McKenzie) was an intensely nice guy. What a great New Zealander! He is part of a partnership; I am part of a famous partnership. He had a lovely sense of "I honor your history, Mr. Garfunkel."

New Zealanders are good. They're peaceniks in my eyes. And there's Jemaine (Clement) -- he knows when he presents himself with his Art Garfunkel hairdo that it's a moment between us off-camera. You just have to bite your tongue and not laugh. "

Jemaine Clement with Art Garfunkel

In a related bit of news, it has been announced that Simon & Garfunkel will be commence a tour of New Zealand and Australia in Auckland, on June 13th of this year. It has been 25 years since they have played together 'officially' (they played a surprise reunion gig in New York earlier this year) and, as such, it is quite a moment in the history of music.

Did the Conchords have anything to do with the decision to first tour Downunder first? I'd like to think so...

Review in from Orlando Gig

Thanks to Kelly Fitzpatrick who sent in her review for Metromix of the Conchords gig in Orlando on Wednesday 8th April. Sounds like it was a good fun with a bit of a laugh enjoyed with their cellist Nigel, who was the only keeping the right timing to the song 'I told you I was freaky', threatening him with dismissal if he kept on playing the song correctly...

Sounds like the gigs are getting better as the boys warm to the task (the few less bananas in the crowd helps as well).

One lady certainly had a great night out in Miami. Thanks to Natalie Trujillo for sending in some photos from her fantastic night out. I've put some of her other good ones on a seperate page for y'all (complete with personalised message from Bret)... Click here to see the other pictures.

There's also some great pictures in from SPIN the online music magazine - thanks Joslyn for those as well.

First Gig Report in from Tampa Bay

1 show down, with lots more to go.

Sounds like the show went down well, although, as would be expected, the guys are still finding their feet after not having performed live for a long time. A few bumps and hicks along the way, but I'm sure it was all good fun.

Lots of fans dressed up in costumes or t-shirts and, inevitably, one... erm... dick in the audience who enthusiastically shouted out at everything going. So a first blog report in from TBT Soundcheck who provide a local music info in Tampa Bay. On to Miami and then Orlando (where there are still a few tickets going for each).

Flight of the Conchords North American Tour Begins!

It really is show time now folks!

Over the next 7 weeks some 100,000'ish lucky folk are going to be able to see Bret & Jemaine, the Flight of the Conchords, at one of 50 concerts in America and Canada. This is the biggest tour they have ever undertaken and it all kicks off in Tampa Bay, Florida, tonight, before moving on to Miami and Orlando for gigs on Tuesday & Wednesday nights and then westwards to Tennessee.

If you're one of the fortunate souls who have gotten a ticket, have a blast! Seeing the Conchords play live is seriously good fun and something you won't ever forget. If you have any photos & reports from these gigs, then feel free to e-mail them through and I"ll try and publish what I can.

For all the unlucky buggers who haven't got a ticket... there are still a few places advertising tickets (not cheap some of the scalping ones), but it may be your one and only time to see them live so maybe re-mortgage the house. Here's the latest links I've got for tickets at the moment.

Flight of the Conchords Tour and Gig InfoSo many people have asked when the Conchords will be performing some more live gigs and here is the great news you've all been waiting for. In April & May, during 7 weeks, the Flight of the Conchords will be performing 50 gigs around America and Canada.

Ticket sales have now started, although, sadly, a lot have sold out already (I don't know how that works either - how on earth do 'Pre-sales' clear out the complete availability, I'll never know).

Best of luck folks!

THEY WILL SELL OUT FASTER THAN A FAST THING!

The bulk of the tickets have been sold now, so if you're after a ticket you are probably going to have to use a re-selling service to get one. I've put together, and will try to maintain, a collection of links that seem to have some of the best prices (cheapest) going...

Special New Zealand Concert for Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Conchords played their first 'live' gig in a year during a special performance for Makoura College (Jemaine's old school) at the Genesis Stadium (the old War Memorial Stadium). Their gig was played in support of the school's campaign to stop the college from closing, due to falling pupil numbers (which, it seems, has been successful, for this year at least).

This Friday they head out from NZ to commence a 50+ gig tour of the United States & Canada, but, before that or the official fund-raiser for the school, in what must have been a very *special moment for all concerned, they played a closed-door gig for the actual pupils of the school. How cool!

Watch the report on NZ's TV3 which includes interviews with Jemaine's old school teacher (Mrs McKenzie - no relation of Bret's) and reflects, I think you'll agree, on a personal moment for Jemaine (both proud & nerve-wracking... could you imagine going back to play a gig at your old school).

* I remember seeing Split Enz who came and played at our school when I was a kid. In 1980's NZ, that was very 'Choice!'. Wanna see some retro-Kiwi culture then check out the video (note the very young Neil Finn, of more global 90's 'Crowded House' fame, with his elder brother Tim).

Sutton Foster (Coco) Releases Debut Album 'Wish'

Sutton Foster releases debut album 'Wish'Sutton Foster who played Coco during a 3 story arc in Season One (inlcuding the Grammy nominated epiosde 'Yoko') has released here debut album with Ghostlight Records...

Sutton is a very talented woman and has established a long and well-respected career in Broadway. Her career took off with a fairytale twist when she, at a fairly young age, was called upon to play the lead in a in a major Broadway production. All fears for the relative 'unknown' were cast aside as the show opened to mostly rave reviews. She went on to win a Tony Award for her role in 2002 for 'Best Leading Actress in a Musical'.

We've got some great information coming up on Sutton and her time working with the Conchords. Check back here shortly for details...

Auckland Records Hottest Day

Hot Polar BearNew Zealand is enjoying a blistering summer and Auckland has just felt the full brunt of it. With the highest ever temperature recorded today at Whenuapai Air Base since weather keeping records began (September 1868... if you're wondering) the thermometer peaked at 32.4 deg Celsus!

If that does not sound that hot, bear in mind that NZ has been quite affected by Global Warming. In fact it has long been recorded that the big hole in the Ozone layer that sits over Antartica, also covers New Zealand. Hence, in NZ, those temperatures can feel extreme. Additionally, there is an added increase of sunburn risk and, in summer (normal summers anyway), public broadcast announcements warn of 'burn times' of 15, 12 and even 10 minutes - and they mean it!
